Pillow Talk

I have been searching for new pillows for our living room since we purchase our sofa/sectional back in October. I haven't had any luck. But while I was browsing the aisle in Target I came across these oh so cute place mats

Then I thought maybe this would work as a pillow cover. So at $3.99 each I took one home to experiment. I used tweezers to pull the stitching apart in the corner and made a hole about 3 inches wide. I only used tweezers because I didn't have scissors that are small enough to cut the stitching.
Next I cut open an old pillow I had stashed away and I transferred the stuffing to the new place mat pillow. Then I just hand stitched the hole back together. I actually was able to go into the small holes that were already there. The end result looked good. so I ran out and bought a second place mat and did the same thing.

And that's how I got two new pillows for only $8. Now I just need to find like 5 more that complement these!

Big Recycling News For Philly

Starting August 1st we can now recycle plastics 1-7 in Philadelphia! I am a little too excited about this!

Here's a run down of what the plastics can be recycled (courtesy of Philly Streets Department)

#1: Soda, water bottles
#2: Milk jugs, detergents, shampoo bottles
#3: Rigid plastic containers and juice bottles
#4: Plastic tubs and lids from butter, margarine or similar products
#5: Yogurt containers and deli trays
#6: Plastic cups, plates and to-go containers
#7: Many mixed plastic containers and plastic products


This is just an example. Always check any plastics you would like to recycle and make sure its numbered with 1-7. And as always make sure you remove any lids before throwing them in your recycling bin.


Somethings that still can't be recycled in Philadelphia include:

Metal: Aluminum foil, pots/pans, paper clips
Glass: Light bulbs, window glass
Mixed Paper: Hard back books, tissues, paper towels, napkins, wax-coated cups or containers, food-soiled paper, file folders
Plastic: Styrofoam, plastic bags, PVC pipe, packing inserts or “peanuts.”
Other: Chemicals, rubber, wood, and ceramic or porcelain plates or cups

This new recycling program in great news for that stainless steel trash can I have been eyeing at Homegoods that Jeff thinks is to small.

2: Blast from the past

Last weekend me, my Mom, and Sisters visited our childhood home. No we do not know the new owners. Yes we knocked on a strangers door. You see when we moved out of that house we left in kind of a hurry so we don't have any pictures to remember the house.

The reason we wanted back in the house so bad was to see the wall in the yard. When my Mom was pregnant with each of us (or soon after) she painted whatever cartoon character was popular at that time. Sadly we never got any pictures of it.

But Luckily the paintings are still there! The new owner was super nice and let us in the yard to take pictures!

Isn't my Mom talented?!!

The paintings are still so bright for being 23-31 years old. Of course the wall had to be repaired over time but you can still see most of it. I am so happy that we have pictures so we can always remember it!

The new owner was excited to meet my Mom. We shared stories about the house and how its haunted and we were not surprised when he totally agreed.
